Ravens at the Tower of London

Ravens have been welcome guests (and, indeed protected) at the Tower of London for centuries. Legend has it that if the ravens were to ever leave the Tower, the kingdom and the fortress would fall. Current-day resident ravens are cared for by their very own Ravenmaster. They’re fed a combination of raw meat and bird biscuits soaked in blood. Once a week they get a special treat of an egg and even the occasinal rabbit.

Pictured in the background are charming Tudor buildings that are part of the Queen’s House in the Tower Green section. Belying their cozy appearance, these are the buildings that once housed famous prisoners such as Anne Boleyn.
