In the distance is Mont Ventoux, the highest mountain in Provence at 3,766 feet. As one might deduce from the name it can be very windy at its summit, especially during the Mistral, with winds reaching speeds of 200 mph.
With it being a little early in the growing season (mid-June) for lavender, my guests and I went on a quest to find some of those famous lavender fields of Provence. After talking with a couple of locals, I learned that the best lavender fields currently in bloom were up in the hills above the Luberon valley near to the town of Saults. After making our climb on twisting and winding roads that afforded stunning vistas back down into the valley, we were rewarded with a multitude of lavender and wheat fields.
